Hello everyone,

To immigrate to the United States from Canada I need a sponsor. I have no family in the US nor do I have a company willing to sponsor me. Am i able to get a friend thats a US citizen to sponsor me or does it have to be a family member?

Thank you

Is your friend willing to support you? That's part of getting that sponsorship is the fact that your friend will have to agree to support you if you can't support yourself. For 10 years.

Yes there willing to support me although they know that they wont have to. As it would be kind of silly leaving a 6 figure income in Canada to come collect welfare in the united states for the next ten years lol.. I will also be giving them $5000 as insurance. so if they in fact are allowed to sponsor me does anyone know the correct forms they need to complete? thanks

After looking at the INS website, I don't think they can sponsor you.

The Affidavit of Support can actually be enforced indefinitely, not just for 10 years.

Basically OP, you would need to be sponsored for RESIDENCY. And yes, it must be via one of two ways - either employment sponsorship (think H1 visa etc.), or family sponsorship.

(After you'd been a LPR for enough years, you could then apply for naturalization)

$XXXX.XX One man's 6 figure income is another mans house payment.

But even poor people have the brains to save and get professional help when they want to emigrate.

Legal immigration to the US is costly, complex and requires a lawyer.

That's not relative.
