Hello there,

I work for a retailer in TX, carrying out merchandising / repairs etc at stores in my area.

This week we received a document from our managers asking us to "apply" for an additional drivers position with the company so that we could potentially take part in the new holiday service, where, if a local customers delivery is late, other (non driver) employees can be called upon to deliver using company or our own vehicles.

Can this be a mandatory request? it seems a big ask. I asked my supervisor if it was but didn't get a direct yes or no.

Thank you.

Certainly they can make you apply. Making you make deliveries in your own vehicle might be problematic.
