I recently left my job because of child care issues. I was a bookkeeper for a year with no experience so it took a long time to learn. I have known the owner since childhood, and liked the job, and did the best I could. At the end the owners bills were getting higher and higher, and they were over drawn often but always recovered. Since I left the owners wife has been texting me and almost harassing me that I've ruined their business! I'm so sick over it, even tho I know its not my fault and I also know so many have left this company because of her crazy behavior. I'm afraid they will sue me, can they sue me? Nothing was intentional, and I've only heard from her and not her husband. Any insight would be helpfulu

Unless you were actually embezzling from them, or directly caused them to lose money, they have nothing to sue you for. Even if you directly caused them to lose money, its unlikely they could sue you and win.

They can sue you, in the sense that anyone with a filing fee can sue for anything. I can sue you because I don't like your shoes. Doesn't mean I'll win.

Doesn't mean they'll win, either. Mistakes by employees fall under "costs of doing business".

Additionally, most if not all states have laws that hold employees harmless (in the financial sense) for the costs incurred by their mistakes. You can be fired for mistakes, yes. But you can't, in most cases in most states, be required to pay the employer for them.

So relax.
