What is the name of your state? Mississippi

Can the father of my so (not on birth certificate but dna test done and both he & i signed acknowledgement) get my sons social sec #? I ask because I want my son to keep name. I'm afraid the father will get court to put him on birth cert and change my sons name without me knowing since im out of state. Is it possible?

You son's father has all the same rights as you do. However, neither of you will be able to change his name without the court's permission.

unjust....

it sucks that i have gone through it all alone without him at all, but because i made the mistake of sleeping with him (or telling him ) he is supposed to get "equal rights" And people wonder why some women make it hard for fathers to visit etc. What happened to 50/50?

You're kidding right? the child is HIS and yours. Just because you 'birthed' the child does not remove his rights.

It's time to come back to reality girl. HE IS the father. PERIOD. The sooner you realize that the easier your life will be until the child turns 18.

define father... he doesnt call, help financially, or show any interest in child. I have even offered to give him $ to come see HIS son. Dont judge me because you have no idea how many times i have tried to get him involved in my sons life. I just asked a simple question, i was not trying to get into a debate. He wants to "tag" my son with his name so he can talk about him. He lives in a different state and just wants to brag about the son that I am raising. If he shows no interest( like I said I offered to give $ for a plane ticket, trip here, or even go to his state & I am paying ALL expenses by myself) I dont think he deserves to give child his last name. Dont be such a prick You outta find out the circumstances before deciding that all cases like mine are the same.

You can rest assured that he cannot change your son's name w/o your or the court's permission. If it ever does go to court, you can ask for a compromise of a hyphenated name.

i was desperate after having son and signed an acknowledgrmrnt of paternity. he signed one after dna test when he was getting a lawyer to file against me. does that mean he can have it changed and i wont be notified?

They already answered that question

If you would have read all of the answers instead of going off on a tirade you would know that. He cannot chnage it without going to court and to do that you would have to be notified of the court date.

As far as the S.S office they will not give him the number unless he can show proof that he is the father and has some sort of legal custody. I have been there and done that. However if he is willing to cheat a little he can get it with no problem.

well, he has papers from clinic that performed dna test. As far as custody, he filed for it last march but has done nothing since i hired a lawyer to respond

the father isnt going to spend much time or take the effort to do much i dont think. so if i understood you correctly, i will have to be notified of a daate before change can be made. Thank you
