What is the name of your state? Maryland

I am in a middle of a child custody case, which will going to trial at the end of April. My discovery period has ended. My ex-spouse's lawyer wasn't able to get information via discovery and has ordered me to a deposition at this office. He gave my attorney 7-10 days notice. I have no problems going to one but I can't make it to the day and time he picked. My ex-spouse's attorney is adamant that I go on this particular day since our trial is so near. So my question is, in the state of Maryland, can I defer the deposition to another date? A family atty friend said that in depositions, you have a one time chance to defer. But I wanted to confirm. Any help would be appreciated. What is the name of your state?

My response:

Not this close to trial, not unless you want to lose, and not unless you're in the hospital or dead. You probably asked your "attorney friend" some months ago - - but now, it's too late.

Since you have an attorney, why didn't you comply with written discovery? Why aren't you asking your attorney this question?

Can I defer a depostion?

What happened is that my ex-spouse's attorney filed the discovery 2 days late, missing the discovery deadline. My attorney said that we didn't have to comply because it was his fault that he filed late. My ex-spouse's attorney saying that he needs information intergral to his case, so he deposed me.

I did ask my attorney who said she didn't know if I could defer a deposition. That's why I'm on the forums now.

So what happens if I don't show up at the deposition? I'll be fired if I take off work. But I guess I'll lose my court battle if I don't show up at the deposition?
