What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia- Ok, My daughter's father was receiving disability up until was was recently incarcerated. We are not married,but he is listed on her birth certificate as her legal father. Is there any way I can get a check for her,or some sort of help financially for her through his benefits? I've never received child support from him,is it possible to try to get that started while he's in prison?..Thanks in advance for any advice!

If he was getting SSDI, benefits are not paid while he is incarcerated, but you should file a claim and get her technically entitled even though nothing can be paid. There still may not be anything payable while he is alive and out of prison, but that might change if he passed away while the child is under 18.

If he was getting SSI, there is nothing for your child except other welfare programs like TANF and food stamps.
