What is the name of your state? PA
My question is, can I call someone qualified to do repairs in my rental home and expect our landlord to take off my rent ? We have lived here three years and I am having to call him at least every two or three weeks with issues about the plumbing . Whether it is toilet not flushing, tub not draining, or my personal favorite, sewage seeping into the basement. His solution to fixing a broken, leaking overflow pipe from toilet was to take off the broken peice and wrap it with waterproof tape saying,"There, that should hold you for awhile." That was last Thursday and last night (thursday) it started all over again.Toilet won't flush , tub won't drain. We are now month to month. When lease expired after first year he told us to let him know as soon as possible if we decided to move. Can I get someone in here to fix things properly and expect him to let us deduct it from our rent check? My biggest worry is that when our dishwasher blew up, his response was that a dishwasher was a luxury and he would get to it when he could. My response was fine, I'll call someone and have it done. He said fine but it would be on my dime. Can he kick us out? We're looking for somewhere else to live right now but unfortunately decent rentals are hard to find, it could take a while. Do I have a chance?

Since your month to month just find another place to live , and give written notice that follows your states law . not every state has a fix and deduct law and since your month to month your LL can just tell you to take a hike and gove you proper notice . so your best bet is to do it when its to your advantage . So keep looking for a new place . BTW when you get ready to move take as much stuff as you can to a self storage so you can clean and take pics of things as the house gets more empty and inc pics of empty closets inside of stove , inside of fridge . and do write a letter make copy and send it using a certificate of mailing about the dishwasher repair do the letter as a general reminder so you have proof of the complaint .

Thanks for the advice. I think I already knew the answer but just wanted to check and be certain. I'm pretty much to the point of paying someone to fix all of this and eating the cost. It would be worth it just to be able to flush a toilet and shower without water around my calves. You'd think over $1000/month would get you decent plumbing.
