What is the name of your state? Minnesota

I have sole physical and legal custody of my two children age 11 and 13. There father (my exhusband) has court ordered supervision, but hasn't visited them in about a year.

I am being offered a job in a different state which pays much more money. The ex husband has never paid child support and is currently $54000 in arrears.

Can I just take the job and move. The last time I spoke to the family they asked for paternity tests.

Thanks

k

Sure you can move. The correct question however is, can you move with the children and that will require permission of the court if the move is out of the jurisdiction of the court.

Do a Google search for Minnesota move-away guideline. Then follow it as a precaution. Since you have sole legal & physical custody- you have a greater chance of being granted permission to move. Do it the Right way, legally first..then there won't be any commotion later.

The court will want you to demonstrate that the move is in the best interest of the child. ie; improved living situation *(job, $), do you have family/friends or support system where you propose to move? Are the school districts &/or town good?

Without more information on your specific situation, it's hard to give more accurate direction.
