What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? va
The varisity and jv softball coach also have there own travel ball team. not sure how many on varisity but the jv has 11 out of 13 that plays or have played for them on travel ball. my daughter and friend are the other 2 both with the ability to play with the rest. you can guess who doesnt get to play. the varisity coach started conditioning the first day of school the only 8th graders that was told was there travel players. if a girl does find out and goes to conditioning the coach doesnt even acknolage her,was done to a girl last year and she quit after a few days. after meeting the jv coach they let her pitch for two innings she struck out 5 batters. that was more then the starting pitcher. the next 2 games they never player her. the coaches have asked for my daughter to play for them on travel and presure her after she said no. meet the ad then she was played a couple inning in of just to make us happy. they take the travel girls and practice weekends and favor them at school. the other day in practice the other girls hit and fielded while my girl and friend had to run bases for them so they could try to get them out.(the whole 90 min practice)then made them run for the fielding mistakes. if the 8th grade girls dont give in to them on there travel team then they seem to want to get rid of them. any advice

Yes, you can sue for discrimination. You won't win.

Why is the first instinct to ask, "Can I sue?"

Instead of saying to the child, "Well, honey, sometimes life isn't fair. Deal with it".

New generation of Soccer Moms and Soccer Dads. When life isn't fair, litigate. I think these are the same ones who used to drive me crazy, when I wanted to drop my kid off at school. They would have one lane, backed out onto the street and half way down the road. Each would give their kid a peck on the cheek and a pep talk, wait until they exited the car, crossed around and entered the school, before pulling away for the next one to do it. I would drive around them all, pull up next to the current vehicle, say love you. have a good day. the close the door and I'm done. He easily wades through them. The same thing goes on at the hs, except the soccor mom/soccor dad lane is longer, but they determined it is okay to drop of two vehicle at a time. I still breeze in and out using the outside lane.

**A: did you get that quote from an attorney?

No quote, don't even care to win just fix it where everyone is treated equal and played on ability.
my daughter has played softball for 6 years and loves it. When kids are 14 years old coaches are rolemodels so it would be nice if they were there for the game and girls and not acting like they are trying to win coach of the decade and stomp every kid that got in there path.

Maybe she is being utilized according to her ability now.

You could speak to the school administration about it...but don't expect it to help.

You could also start your own team and/or league.

I coach soccer. Have done it all my adult life. Over time, I seem to have bubbled up to where those I coach are the more elite of the sport. Once you get to that level, everyone is above average and a legend in their own minds. The competition for positions can be great and it is almost impossible to objectively determine who the "best" is. You can do charts and graphs and tests, but, at the end of the day, there is going to be a huge subjective component to assessment. (Maybe not as much in softball which can lend itself to a little more statistical measure, but it is still there.) When a coach is going to assess a player, one thing that can help is how dedicated the player is. If I have two equal players, one who goes to clinics and camps and the other who does not, who should I choose? Even more so, if one player is one I've seen for many interactions and the other for fewer, who should I choose? We'd like coaches to be superkeenmentallogicpeople, but they are just plain old people too. They give more of a chance to those they like and know. It's wrong, but it is the world and the way humans react. The only time it is not true is with the coach's daughter/son. There, there are two types. One, the kid is golden and can do no wrong and the other, to be fair to all, the kid gets no slack and no extra consideration. But, that's with the kid where the focus can cause much consideration about what is best. To the rest, all revert to norm. If I like you and know you, you are just going to get more of a chance to prove yourself. Even if we ignore the profit portion of attending my camps or clinics.

In order to successfully sue for discrimination, you must show that the discrimination was against someone in a protected class for an unlawful reason.

For example, if your daughter is not permitted due to the color of her skin, you would have a pretty good case, because there are laws prohibiting discrimination based on race.

In your example, there are no laws prohibiting discrimination against soccer players who do not join a travel team, so a lawsuit is not likely to succeed.

I can't have just black children on my soccer team by choice? I think you need another step or two hoss. (Unless a private soccer team is one of public accommodation.) I hear the Boy Scouts discriminates based on sex. Perhaps they need an attorney.

(Of course, in the context of the OP's question, there is a school involved. Also, there are places that get public funds that could fall under some anti-discrimination statute.)
