My 82 yr old mom had serious complications after cataract surgery on 1 eye. She is now blind in that eye. Her surgeon left on vacation within 30 min of the surgery, leaving no oncall doctor or instructions for mom. I called the office and the nurse gave her an appointment the following week and told her not to worry. The surgeon saw her every week for 4 months saying everything was fine, it would just take time.
She saw another specialist who said she had permanent optic nerve damage and indicated it should have been preventable. He told me to get a copy of all her records. She is now going blind in her other eye.
Two attorneys have called her offering to take her case. I have no idea how they found out. My mom refuses to sue because of the stress involved.
However, she is going to need home nursing care soon and is on a limited income. She is also going to need home care in general...cooking, cleaning, bathing etc. She cannot afford it and neither can I.
The attorney indicated she would not have to do a thing. The records speak for themselves.
Can I sue on her behalf? I don't think she is aware of what expenses she will have in the future because of this.
She played 18 holes of golf 4 days/week right up till the surgery so she is suffering.
Thankyou
