Hello,

I recently gave a 3 week notice to my Manager. Upon hearing this, this started taking a weird turn.

1) Prior to the notice, I had attended an Industry conference. I expensed the registration (around $2k) and got reimbursed for this trip by my company.

However a day after my notice, my manager sent me a mail saying I shouldn't be seen anywhere in the company premise (I was still on the company payroll when he sent me the message) or access any company resources (mails etc) otherwise they will ask me to return the reimbursed amount ($2k).

I construe this as a threat and I wanted to understand if this is within legal bounds. The Industry trip and the reimbursement was done as an employee of the company.

I doubt it was a threat. It was just them accepting your resignation early. I think you've been fired.

Go file for UI. CA allows UI benefits when your resignation is accepted early and you suffer a wage loss.

Thanks for your response Chyvan. May be I am not articulating it well, I have moved on and not necessarily looking into UI or even questioning being fired.

My issue is with them asking back the reimbursed amount as a threat even though it was an event in the past.

If you are asking whether the alleged threat is something you can sue for, the answer is no, you cannot. Not successfully. And probably not without having strips torn out of you by the judge for wasting his time.
