Can she fire me?

from Arizona, Due to very harsh dental problems, making my job difficult to perform, since my job is being on the phone 5 hrs/shift, and with the swelling and infections and having 4 teeth come out within the last month, it was very difficult to talk with happiness.

My boss referred me to the only dentist that will take payments. With Friday off, I went and had full xrays, and they would call with future appointments, by Sunday a real bad infection took over my sinus cavity, and I had no choice but to call off for work. I called the boss, who she's ok with it, Mon. was much better, but not hearing from the dentist, I called them, and got a recording "this office will be closed for the week". I called work to tell the boss this information, and before I could speak, she said "you need to take the week off and take care of everything" I said 'I can't their office is closed for the week" and she says 'you didn't hear me, I am giving you the week off, do what you have to do' I tried to say agian, but was cut off, with 'don't argue, your off for the week, don't call, don't come in, and I'll see you next week!' click.. The following Monday, I called the dentist and got an appointment for Thrus. I then called work to let the boss know, and that I'd be in by 4pm (regular shift) and she say "I gave you last week off for all of this, and you apparently ignored me, (pause) well your office is packed up, come get your things, you just don't want to listen to me' click..

Would someone please tell me what I did that warranted being fired??? I've never been fired from a job before, but since she fired me, can I qualify for unemployment? or anything? Oh, I was 4 days away from being employeed here for one year, do I lose my week vacation pay that you earn the first year?? And arn't they suppose to have my paycheck ready when she fired me? She says I will get it Fri. like everyone else does?

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks, Janeen

Your employer can terminate your employment for anything they wish as long as it doesn't violate the law. FMLA doesn't apply as you haven't been employed for 1 year. As far as unemployment, you can certaintly apply and it will be up to your state to decide whether you qualify for benefits.

Arizona DOES say is that the employer must pay accrued vacation at termination IF the company policy requires it.

the answer is still yes, they can fire you. They must have your check for you at your next regularly scheduled pay time. Payment of your vacation time is up to the company. No one here can say whether or not unemployment will consider you to be eligible
Damn, should have checked that - thanks, guess the OP wasn't happy with other answers.

sorry to have reiterated the rest of your information, I just knew I had read the whole teeth thing before and was looking for it. :D
