That was because you did not tell us the state you were in. I am pretty sure that with one parents permission and you being 17, there are no states that would allow her to contest or stop the wedding.. Luckily, my mate IAAL does know this..

"Mate" obviously means "Pal" or "Friend" from your context, and in the latter instances, I am yours, and I know the respect is mutual.

However, in the United States, "mate" refers to the opposite sex, as in "my wife is my mate for life". It is also a sexually related word, as in, "I wish to mate with her." Suffice it to say, "mate" is not used to mean "friend" or "pal" in the U.S.

So, since we are two guys, and I have no intention of "mating" with you sexually (although some might like to see that), please refer to me as "your Lordship", or "Highness", or something else Regal - - just not "mate".

Yuck !

DE has to have both parents sign. BTDT. I am fairly certain judging from this girl's posts, she is not mature enough to be a wife or a mother. Maybe her mom understands something she doesnt. Twins? Whew! I couldnt imagine!

How did you know His Eminence meant no, she can't annul the marriage rather than no, I don't know? (Hint, state is WA)

Belinda,

You are young, but I didn't notice immaturity in your posts. If you were only asking for advice re marriage, I would discourage you, but you are going to need a lot of support in the coming months and years. If you think your boyfriend is capable of providing that support for you and your babies, I hope you're right, and wish you a happy life.

I doubt your mother will try to "undo" your marriage, but it might take her a while to adjust to it. She has to realize that once you've become a parent, you become emancipated, and you could then be married without approval. Here's betting she'll forget it as soon as the babies become part of the picture.

Good luck to you and your new family!

I don't know which one of LB or IAAL the following supports, but here goes. (hahaha)
From Roget's Thesaurus, third edition, printed August 1998:

Mate: n. 1. one of a pair, duplicate, match, twin, counterpart, companion, equivalent. 2. one of a pair of mated animals; spouse, partner, consort, helpmate; husband, (informal) hubby; wife, better half. 3. (British informal) chum, pal, crony, buddy, friend, companion, comrade, sidekick; coworker, fellow worker, associate, confederate, colleague, partner; classmate; roommate; messmate. 4. first mate, second mate; ship's officer below the rank of captain, master mariner.
v. 5. pair off; couple, copulate, cohabit

Your Lordship, I thought after all the requests for me to come to CA, I assumed the worse since we all know that there are only two types of males in CA.

Anyway, I have been working with an Aussie recently so my lingo has changed a little. He is a Top Bloke, just like you.
