What is the name of your state? Virginia

A company called Arch Group is contacting me via fax now to tell me that they are doing legal collections for a Zurich insurance policy for a business I had that closed 3 years ago. I have never received one phone call, letter or anything prior to this and they are not present on my credit report. Can they do this?? Do I have to pay them for a policy that was canceled even before the business closed it's doors? When I questioned her because it made such little sense to me, she just told me they would persue a judgment now and place it on my credit report unless I paid. Also, told me that since it was canceled (not showing on their records)... that I should just pay them and then go after my ins. agent for recourse. Something doesn't sound right!
Thanks! Jan

Standard answer on expired SOL and/or validation and/or dispute letters. There are thousands of posts similar to yours on this forum so I have prepared a standard answer.

SOL (Statutes of limitation are DEFENSES to lawsuits; they do NOT provide a method to stop someone from suing you. This defense means when they sue you, you answer with the defense that it is barred by the SOL.)

Validation letter samples you can get at :
www.creditinfocenter.com
and www.creditboards.com

Disputes: You can write a letter of dispute to the three credit reporting agencies.

Go this website to find instructions and samples for how to dispute: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/creditreports/

Sometimes errors are easy to remove and sometimes they stick like glue. It is inexpensive to try and not difficult.

Of course they can bill you for a debt that you owe.

Do I have to pay them for a policy that was canceled even before the business closed it's doors?
Depends on the terms of the policy and payments. There is likely far more to this then we are being told.....

When I questioned her because it made such little sense to me, she just told me they would persue a judgment now and place it on my credit report unless I paid.
So, send them a validation letter by certified RRR. A good sample letter can be found at: www.creditinfocenter.com/forms/
