What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA. If a person (in this case OP for a paternity case) contacts my neighbors/people I've employed (handyman) asking for letters stating pysch issues/that I'm unfit to be a father (these parties declined OP then contacted myself). And attempts to utilize recordings/media and or privy medical information of someones past. Could I have any legal recourse? As a result of OP contacting various people in my immediate area-I have people I do not know asking me "how my case is going"- its embarrassing?

She can contact whomever she wishes and ask them to write whatever she wants. They can choose to write something or not, as they see fit.

Whether recordings of some kind can be used will depend upon whether they were made surreptitiously or within the law. If they are videos or audio recordings she made or obtained lawfully, then there is no reason to think they could not be used in a custody hearing. Whether or not they are relevant is something we cannot answer without more detail.

You do not have a right to be free from embarrassment so about all you can do now is shake your head and move ahead.

I agree but in the process people talk....

Although I'll agree its embarrassing the question is if any legal recourse is legally warranted? based on OP's action- any recordings are speculation as I believe OP party would do anything (I'm not aware of or have given no consent for such).

Furthermore....

I would not call her neighbors asking for statements that are baseless/without merit.

It may be embarrassing, and it may not be warranted, but there is generally no legal prohibition against asking questions of people or even spreading embarrassing stories. Recordings may or may not be legal depending on how they were obtained. CA is a two party state for recordings, but there are some exceptions. If these were recordings you were aware of and she did not steal from anyone, then they are likely good to go as well. Since you have not provided any idea of what these recordings are, there is no way to say whether they might be lawful or not.

If she has been spreading untruths about you, and you can assign a dollar value to the damage you have suffered as a result of those slanderous statements, then you can consult an attorney about the possibility of a lawsuit. I don't think it will be worthwhile, but many attorneys will allow a free consultation.

Thanks...

OP's actions are indeed annoying/unnecessary. I do not understand why OP party is not thinking ahead. For the rest of our lives we have a child we must give love and affection whether independently or as a family unit. It does not help the situation to PO the OP its "unfit" for everyone.
