My classical music chamber ensemble is looking for a new name. One of the options we like has been taken by a 70s jazz band. Is there a trademark territory conflict with us using the same name if we perform a completely different genre of music? We perform in classical music concerts, educational programs and private events, and would eventually like to set up a not-for-profit under the same name, so we'd like to avoid conflicts!

If you wish to avoid conflicts then don't use the name. It's simple.
Trademark infringement does not concern the 'style' you utilize, it concerns the use of the trademark. Plain and simple.
