What is the name of your state? Florida

I work for a medical company in Florida and I am paid by the line, 0.09 cents per line. I also am assigned an hourly wage so that they can pay me holiday pay, sick days and vacation days when we need paid time off. Our hourly wages were based on the amount of lines that we were producing. The more you type the more you make. They would assess our hourly rates every few months and we would get a raise or decrease depending on how fast or slow we were typing for that period of time. I was making anywhere between $25 and $35 hour an hour for 4 years before the company decided to pay everyone a flat rate and they dropped it to $9 an hour. Are they allowed to do this? I still produce at the rate of $28 an hour but to take a day off kills me. If I want to take a vacation I would lose almost $750 in pay a week because of their hourly cut. I just want to know if what they did is legal.

As long as you are being paid more than minimum wage (which is $5.15 per hour - in May, 2005 it will be $6.15 in your state) then yes, they can do this. Nothing in the law prohibits them from lowering wages as long as you receive whatever notice is required by state law - and as far as I know FL does not require any notice. The law only says that you can't be paid less than minimum wage.

In addition, nothing in the law of any state requires them to provide paid vacation, sick or personal days or paid holidays.
