hi,
I am an alien physician currently doing research on a J-1 visa for 4 months. (research category). I am planning to start postgraduate training next summer, but I recently learned that I will not be allowed to do so unless I leave the U.S. for one year. (since this would imply changing my J-1 category from research to clinical). Nevertheless, my advisor has told me that if I leave the country before completing 6 months of my research, this restriction will not apply to me, and I will be able to go back to my country and then reenter the U.S for postgraduate training.
Is this true?
