Proserpina, I didn't say it established legal parentage. I merely said a step-parent can be a legal parent without an adoption. The word "legal" encompasses quite a few arenas. In the medical arena, where I work, adoption is not necessary to be a legal parent. And that is what I meant in my original post.

And you have no idea what "legal parent" means.

A stepparent is never, ever, a "legal parent". I hope you can understand that.

As for this not being my legal business, when she came to me for help and I agreed, we both agreed to let it become my legal business in that two heads are better than one and I might find something she missed. I am sorry if this offends you. However, you certainly have the right to tell a friend to go to a forum and I will not challenge your decision.

Doesn't offend me at all. But it's still not your legal business.

Lastly, I came here to help a friend not carry on an unhelpful debate. Therefore I appreciate your interest and comments but I cannot continue a conversation that ultimately is not helping her. I apologize, but I will no longer be able to answer any of your comments.
Thank you.

You really need to look up the term "legal".

But we'd be glad to help your friend if she needs it. Wish her well for us.

Well, in our (legal) world, legal parentage=legal parent

You might want to ask the attorneys for your healthcare practice what they think, cause you're wrong.

Proserpina and Indianafiler, both of you have missed the point of my thread. I don't feel I am going to get anything else positive out of this thread so I will close it now. S and I chose to make this my legal business, so therefore it is my legal business until we both decide it isn't, regardless of what others might feel. Indianafiler, I have spoken to the attorneys at the hospital where I worked. I followed their rules, I didn't make them up on my own. I also notarized birth certificates and have listed step-parents as the child's parent without an adoption. All of my paperwork was legal and binding in the Middletown, CT Superior Court of Law. If you believe the court, the hospital or I am wrong, feel free to contact them.
I would like to thank everyone who made helpful comments.
