i am going through a divorce. my husband and i separated our charge cards in our own name in jan of 1998. since then he has racked up a total charge card debt of 57,500 dollars in his own name. he is using his charge card debt as a reason why he cannot give me any alimony. he has a job where he earns almost three times what i do and i need some financial support for our two children. most of what he has charged on these cards was on himself and his girlfriend or her children. trips, hotels, restaurants, cash advances, grocery store, etc. i have 3 emails where he states he is responsible for the debt and some of his charge card statements where i could prove that 75% of the debt was not spent on the family. my attorney says i should do everything to take some type of settlement outside of court because she cannot guarantee what the judge will do. she thinks i might even loose alimony and get some of the debt. unfortunately, i need the financial support from him. i am not asking for more from him, but just what was already set on a temporary basis. so here are my questions?
do you agree with my attorney?
should i hire some type of accountant or financial lawyer who specializes in something like this?
please help me
