What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia

Not sure what forum this should be on, this seemed maybe the closest. My dentist started the process of providing me with a 4 point bridge (2 supporting teeth and 2 spaces). She prepared the 2 supporting teeth (removing one crown) and made me a temporary bridge. When I left the office, I was charged for almost the entire procedure for $1820, including 2 pontics (part of the bridge - NOT EVEN ORDERED YET!), 2 crowns (not made yet), and a core buildup w/pins (not done yet). My insurance company said that certainly didn't comply with their arrangement, but I'm wondering - is it even legal? And might it be grounds for holding up payment via my credit card?
Thanks. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Did they give you an invoice that lists specific procedures or itemizations?

Perhaps the dentist wanted to have it all billed at once, and when you get the other 2 teeth done you won't have a charge.

Not sure of the law behind it, but from an insurance stand point she could've been doing you a favor (albeit legally shaky and without consulting you), as it could be billed as 1 procedure instead of 2. Cheaper for you now, plus fewer procedures billed to insurance, which could keep your deductible lower. But she should have told you she was doing this and make sure you to agree to pay for it all up front.

Might want to check with your dentist and see what she was planning on charging you for the rest. It might be she was going to do the rest 'off the books,' which would also explain why the insurance company's arrangement didn't match what she told you.
