HELP!!!I am a 40 y/o man living in the state of Maryland.
my problem is this...
19 yrs ago I was in a live in relationship that resulted in 3 children being born.the oldest child is 18 y/o, the next is 17 the baby is 13y/o,and they reside in Va.Untill recently,I had not seen the children for approximately 11 years, due to my irresponsibility and their mothers hatred for me...
During the last 11 yrs. I found out through court records that the children had experianced various forms of abuse at the hands of their mothers husband...My children and myself where reunited a few months ago and have shared a wonderful relationship to the present...
My youngest daughter(13) has informed me of abuse coming from her mother, while visting myself and fiance this holiday season, and has stated to us and my family as well, her desire to stay here with us,because it is the best move for her to make due to her situation with her mother.
the child's birth certificate does not contain my name, however, her last name is listed as a hyphenated form of both off our names...
My fiance is in agreement and I am more than willing and able to support this child, and I have the blessings of her older sisters who have stated that they will testify as too the family situation...
WHAT CAN I DO???

My response:

You'll need to file a Petition for visitation, and perhaps, custody with a court in the State of Virginia. That is the State and Court that have jurisdiction.

Contact a Virginia Family Law attorney for specific details and procedures.
