What is the name of your state? Tennessee. A convicted child molester has moved in next door to me. My neighborhood is full of children.Have contacted and informed parents, families, DHS etc.Feel that do to the number of kids in and out of our street still too dangerous.Am I within my rights to place a sign in my yard with an arrow pointed to his house stating a convicted pedophile lives here?He is on the web.

Do you know what he was actually convicted of? How did you find out he was an ex-felon if he isnt on the TBI website?

I had suspicions, based on working with offenders in prison, they have certain behaviors that are red flags, and inquired to a police detective who confirmed his conviction of child porn and expl. of minor. They are allowed to give info out if they deem offender threat to community. When I explained his driveway was the three block radius bus stop, within 2 hrs. they posted a patrol car which will monitor every day, and they are in the process of changing bus stops. We are a military community, very transient, so new families are always moving in, many children in this neighborhood.Guy dresses up as Santa @ Chris. for a local club which is family oriented, members clueless .

Okay, so lets see if I understand this correctly.

You do not KNOW that a neighbor is a convicted sex offender, you just 'felt it' by his vibes. You then took your 'feelings' and talked with a PD detective, who ran the suspect and confirmed to you that this person did have a sex offender record.
(I see lots of civil liability there!).

So, you have now decided to try to find out if this person is in compliance with your state laws about registration, etc.... and it appears he is.
Here is a link to the TN requirements if you want to check:
http://www.klaaskids.org/st-tenn.htm

So, now you want to know, "Am I within my rights to place a sign in my yard with an arrow pointed to his house stating a convicted pedophile lives here?"
The answer is yes, you have that right. And then the person you have 'pointed at' has the right to sue your ass off.
First, you have no PROOF that this person is who you suspect (the PD couldn't have run him with only a name... so if they did, they could have the wrong person)
Second, this person has already 'done his time' and is in compliance with ALL laws.
Third, your intentions, as good as they may be, would give you a HUGE potential liability issue.

Sorry if I seem favored toward this predator (I'm not).... but I am almost as concerned about the 'overzealous stand' and abuses that people take when they feel that they are 'in the right' when they may not have ALL the facts!!
