What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey

I owed money in back child support. I worked out a deal with my exwife through our lawyers to pay off this debt and she in turn wrote a letter to the state saying she was terminating the child support arrears that was showing. We have followed step by step what our case worker had told us to do but when logging into my child support case online I am still showing the arrears amount (although I am no longer paying the extra money per week). My lawyer had suggested waiting until early April to see if anything happens by then but I am getting nervous now because I need to have my passport by May.

I was told this process would be short (1-3 weeks) but we are now going into the 5th week and now I am not even getting a return phone call from our case worker. We did this because I am in need of a passport and in New Jersey can not get one apparently unless my arrears showed $0. Now I have settled this matter with my ex, she has received the money and written the letter (and we had it notarized) but can someone explain what maybe happening right now and how long this usually takes for it to be completed? I am in need of my passport by May and really hoping it will be completed in time.

Thanks for any information
Warm Regards,
Bill

You need to check with your attorney. For alimony, I know that you need to submit your "proof" and signatures via a motion to the court as it is only a judge that can approve it and then order CSEA to apply it to your account. Otherwise, CSEA is not authorized to apply credits/payments not received by them directly via personal check or garnishment. I would suspect that the same is true of child support.
