When child support puts a lien on everything you own. Can they make you sell it to pay off child support? My husband owes for child support. And I dont want to loose everything we have because of it. They already take money out of his checks every week. Can they do more?

If someone has a lien on your property, they aren't making you sell it. However, if and when you sell said property, the lien will have to be satisfied before you receive any funds from the sale.

Thank you, thats what I kept telling my husband but he was sure they would take everything we own from us. To sell it to make the past due child support. Thanks again.

There are provisions in the Federal Child Support laws under which the IRS can take property to satisfy unpaid child support, but this happens when the $ amount is huge and no effort is being made to pay the arrearage.

I can understand why they would if we werent paying on it. But we are. And with our refund on our taxes it should be caught up soon. Thanks
