What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? California

My 16 yo son was arrested Feb 14 and is being held at juvenile hall. At the detention hearing the judge said he was now under the control and custody of the probation dept. His next hearing is March 1. They wouldn't recommend release to the home because he was a runaway (he ran away Feb 9) when he committed the offenses.
I receive $65.58 in child support every 2 weeks (garnished from my ex and sent to me by the county child support dept). I don't want the govt to come back years from now and say I owe this money to them for however long he stays in custody. Am I obligated to tell the child support dept that he's not actually living with me right now?

Hmmm ... good question, and one I've never heard before.

But, if your county is like most, they are going to bill you for at least part of the juvenile hall costs, so your payments may go there anyway.

Your best bet (to avoid the risk) would be to speak to the agency responsible for the child support money. I know you don't want to risk losing the money, but, the other option is to risk jail or a much bigger bill (plus interest and penalties) later.

Your call.
