I'm a Deacon in my Church. If something goes wrong in the Church and it's not my fault, can I still be sued?
Our last Pastor did some strange things and some of the people are talking about suing the board members. Can they do that?
Thanks for any info.

The literal answer to your question is, Yes, anyone can be sued.

However, the real question is, "Could you be liable as a Church Deacon for actions done by others, namely the Pastor". And the answer to that is, Maybe. It depends entirely on the circumstances. Was the Pastor acting within the pervue of the Deacons?? Were the Deacons aware of this action(s) and failed to correct them? What, if any, insurance does the Church carry to indemnify you in the event that you take an action on behalf of the Church that creates liability? Are your services done under a written agreement? If so, what does the agreement say??

As you can see, there are many different answers to your question. And without access to the full circumstances and facts, it is nearly impossible to answer with any authority.
