What is the name of your state?
California

Is there a difference between "rental unit" and "dwelling unit"? I can only find a legal definition of "dwelling unit" which, as I understand, only includes the actual structure. Since my rental agreement only stated the "structure", I asked for clarification of the area I would have tenancy of and responsibility for. My landlord described to me at that time that my rental included a generous area of the parcel, easily distinguishable and separate from the rest of the property, on which two buildings provide other rental dwellings. Does my landlord have "at will" entry to the area surrounding my house, which I understood to be included in my rent?

The rental agreement also states: "Renter shall weed and maintain any yard with their unit". Does this include the yard as my rental unit, and therefore included in the area the landlord may not enter "at will"?

Thank you
