I live in Michigan. I cohabitate & am currently getting alimony. Now my ex wants to stop paying me the alimony because I live with my boyfriend. Our divorce has been final for 6 months. My attorney said that if you cohabitate, you do not get alimony & that it is a law. She never told me this before. It was only during the time you where waiting for the divorce to be final. Alimony stops when you remarry or when you die. That is usually how it is written in the divorce settlement . That was how mine was written. My ex was asked if I cohabitated, would he want the payments to stop. He said "no". So, what is the Michigan law on this? I need help here asap. I need this support so I can pay for my health insurance, so I can go back to school, so I can financially support myself. If I loose this money, then I can't pay for my health insurance, & I do have health problems.
