Is it possible that a bill goes to collection without you knowing about it? I got a bill from a doctor I visited more than a year ago, does anyone know if they keep on sending you the bills or give you a notice before they send it to the collection etc?

Thanks :

Yes, it can

If you haven't paid the doctor's bill, they can send it to collections if they want to. Some will an some won't. Some will give you plenty of time and many notices before the send to collections and some might send to collections right away. I would try calling the doctor's office to see if they've sent to collections yet. If they haven't, try to make arrangements to pay the bill. Many doctor's offices will work with you to come up with a payment plan. I had a relatively large bill that wasn't covered by insurance and I couldn't afford it up front. They said that even a $10 payment and some effort to pay the bill was all they needed to keep it from collections. I have been doing that (or paying more when able) and they have kept their word.

If you just let this go, it will most likely go to collections at some point. Then it will be on your credit report. Doctor's offices can't report your info, but the collection agencies who collect for them can.

Good luck,
HT
