What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

I was wondering if there is any law or legal argument I could make in civil court regarding harassment from a college teacher of mine. He said highly inappropriate things to me, but they didn't have anything to do with sexual harassment or about gender, race, etc. When I told him to stop bullying me, he escalated, said more crazy stuff and gave me a bad grade. I am a very good student and the class he teaches he rarely if ever gives this bad of a grade. This happened yesterday and for all I know he will continue giving me bad grades. I've contacted the administration and they said I need to handle it within the department. I don't think the department people are objective and will hold him accountable. They are all friends. I really just want to be able to go to school and do my work and come home. Are there any laws that protect people from this type of abuse? If I can prove that this happened can a judgment be entered against him?

I will tell you the same thing I told my daughter when she left for college a couple of months ago.

There will be professors that you don't like and don't like you. They will belittle and scorn... and you will hate and fear.

Deal with it. Part of college is to prepare you for the working world where mommy and daddy aren't there to protect you or to keep people from being mean to you.

If you don't like the class or professor, drop it. Otherwise, deal with it. No one said the world was never going to be mean to you.

Wait until you hit working for a living.

So you have already decided the department the professor is in will not be able to help you without even trying?

I'm a nontraditional student. I've worked different jobs before. So I should just put up with abuse and a teacher who gives a bad grade ONLY because he doesn't like me? Is that what you teach your child? Really?

Also, I should say I'm in a program so I can't drop this class without failing the program. I have to have this to graduate. I CAN switch to the other class IF they let me, because that class has a different teacher, but this being 5 weeks into the semester I doubt they will let me.

Another student complained about him 3 weeks ago and nothing changed. I'm not saying she won't help, I'm saying this isn't the type of place that seems concerned about things like accountability, fairness, progress. I'll try but I prefer this be handled by an 3rd party who doesn't know either of us previously.

No, you prefer for this issue to be handled in such a way where you don't have to confront the teacher personally.

Stand up for yourself or don't. Drop the class or don't.

Look in the student handbook for the section that describes how no one will ever dislike you or be mean to you.

Based on your posting history, I think you have issues with wanting the world to change for you, rather than you effectively adapting to the world. I can see the professor dealing with a "know it all" freshman, the way he dealt with you.

And this has ? to do with JOB discrimination and harassment?

We're only getting your side of the story. What's so wonderful about you that he wants to persecute you? Is he jealous? Have you made him look bad with your scintillating intelligence?

No, I taught her that life is going to be full of a variety of people... and that she will have to learn to live with them all.

You refuse to talk to the department... that limits your options to dropping the class or dealing with it.

That leaves dealing with it, then.

reading the history...

op seems to think EVERYONE is harassing her.

So it turns out we were right about the trucking job issue.

got evicted and garnished because she didn't take our advice with her ll tenant problem...

upstairs neighbor harassing her, ex boss harassing her, college professor harassing her.

I wonder at what point will this person take our advice, even if she doesn't like it. we have been right over and over again, and still she wont take us seriously.

Isn't this like the scene in Back to School where the professor tells Thornton Melon that whomever wrote the paper on the works of Kurt Vonnegut doesn't know the first thing about the writer**************and Vonnegut wrote the paper :D

Obviously you're only getting one side of the story. What do you want me to do about that?

Like I said other students are complaining about him also. They mostly just whine and moan about him behind his back but don't do anything because they're overly concerned with being nice and don't want to stand up to authority. He has been brought up to other teachers at least 3 times thought by people other than me.

I don't think he's targeting me until last night when I talked to him about being inappropriate.

Somehow I get the feeling he could steal a school computer and punch me in the nose and everyone would act like I should apologize.
