What is the name of your state? Illinois

An employee who was 100% commission and paid when the orders were shipped out has been involuntarily separated from the company. The employee is stating that he is owed commissions on future orders that he had written but had not been shipped as of his last day. As a company are we legally obligated to pay commissions to him on orders shipped in the future? Thanks.
