What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oklahoma

I have been employed for 6 months as a sales agent. These are high ticket items and sometimes takes months for the sales to complete to fruition. According to the company, agents do not earn commissions until the product has been delivered, and the contract funded. If you are terminated or leave on your own before any contract has been funded you do not get paid and the company keeps it.

Next month I would have had several deals complete for about $9,450 in commissions due. The new general manager who has been here for 2-3 weeks fired me as I walked in the door today "I am making wholesale changes. Give me your keys and collect your personal stuff and go." That is the way to fire someone in oklahoma, give them no reason, I get it.

But what about my $10,000? Did I earn it while employed? Did I earn it only if it completes? sure I'll go with that. If it does complete as I wrote the deal, I should get paid for what I did as an employee, right?

I did sign a document shortly after hired that said something like "Commissions are only paid while you are a current employee" I have heard of other cases where after termination agents have sued and won partial commissions due.

What are my options? It is $10,000. I do not want to just forget about it.

My opinion is that you are aware that commissions are only earned once the deal completes and that you have to be an employee to earn commissions. I think those two points together make a strong case for you not being entitled to those commissions.

Figured as much. Never hurts to ask. Is this an opinion of a professional attorney? or just an average joe who monitors this board?

I am not an attorney. In fact, very few people on this board are attorneys. We are folks who are familiar and experienced with the law, but most of us do not work in the legal field.
