What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia

I am wanting to adopt my stepdaughter. Months ago her birth father decided he wanted to get to know her. My wife filled a custody petition they went to court and got a second court date. Since then he has decided that he wants to give up his rights and allow me to adopt her. I'm in the military and want to get this done prior to me deploying later this year but the follow on court date for their custody case is at the end of June. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to start the adoption and cancel their custody case. All of us involved including my daughter just want this finished and done with as soon as we can. Thanks for any help.

You need a lawyer. And dad could change his mind at any time up until he signs the papers terminating his rights. And it probably won't be quick. But getting a lawyer is the first step.
