What is the name of your state? Ohio
I have been attempting to understand condominium insurance. I have a homeowner's policy which was written, stating that I am covered from the drywall into the condominium. The condominium association covers drywall out.
A few years ago, a unit owner had a connection hose break from his toilet to the wall. This connection was located in the upper story. The unit owner was on vacation and his unit flooded from the leaking, faulty hose during the time he was out of town.
The condominium association told the condominium insurance company to pay for the damage and repair. We now pay an insurance premium that is three times higher than it was before this incident. I am speaking of thousands of dollars.
The unit owner also held a home owner's policy. When the unit owners requested disclosure or an explanation from the association board and/or property management company, we were completely denied any information. What we have learned comes from the condominium insurance company, and the construction company that did some of the repairs.
We do not have any information relative to the unit owner's home insurance. Since there was a mortgage on the property, the mortgage company must have required substantial coverage.
Is it possible to collect on the homeowner's insurance as well as the condominium association insurance?
