What is the name of your state? TX suit filed in CA

I have a friend who has had a lawsuit filed against him in CA for copyright violations concerning some sales on Ebay.

He is unable to hire an attorney. He was asked by the attorney for the company that is suing him to provide his entire paypal history. He is not sure how to handle it.

He just wants to find out if he would be required, if this went to court, to provide his entire paypal history or only provide information having to do with the sales in question.

Thanks in advance for anyone who has any knowledge in this area.

If he has been sued, and he has been served a proper discovery request, he has to either comply with the request, or object to the request. If he objects, or if he fails to comply with the discovery request, the suer can go to the court and ask the court to compel the discovery -- in other words, get a court order demanding the records.

If he has been properly asked for the records, he either has to give them up, or put together a legally-convincing story as to why he shouldn't have to. If he is representing himself, he needs to get to a library (preferably a law library) and start educating himself on how civil lawsuits in federal court, and specifically federal civil discovery rules, actually work.

Thank you for responding. That's what I thought, but wanted to check with someone else. He is trying to work out a settlement, he did not realize that he was violating copyright with the sales and just wants to get it done and over with, but it is kind of intimidating to have someone looking at your financial records.

Thanks again.
