What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I am a teacher at a community college and I was stalked by a student 3 years ago. The student harassed me by sending letters of love, meeting me at the parking and in general tried to spend as more time with me as possible. After I had a serious conversation with him and explained that his actions were not welcome, the student dropped out of school. We maintained friendly relationship. 6 months later the student called me on the phone and made up a story "as if my boyfriend stalked him" and at the same time the student contacted my boyfriend and caused him an emotional trauma by making up horrible stories about me. The student's attempt to ruin my relationship and interfere in my life has led us to go to a police department where we were advised to write a letter to the student to leave me alone and never contact me again by any means. The student has acknowledged the receipt of the letter. I have not heard from him for the 3 years. But yesterday the same student showed up at my office asking me to accept him into one of my classes that I teach one-on-one.

Please, I need advice on what is best to do? Do I have enough legal argument to file a restraining order? Or should I talk to the school about what can be done?
THanks.

Talk to your school. Get a restraining order if unwanted contact continues and you fear for your safety.

I think that you should talk to the school about the situation first.
