What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? az
i saw a laptop for sale on craigslist, dell m1530 xps...it has the nvidia chipset , 8600m gt, that is problamatic....high rate of failure,,,,i bought it tonight, withdrew $400 , and he told me he only used it twice,,,well, got home tonight , and ran a game..bingo,,specs all over my display....this guy sold me a bad laptop...and lied about using it only twice...i did not get a bill of sale or anything...just his laptop, .....any recourse on this?

The seller may well have only used it twice. What he DIDN'T say is that it was new when he bought it.

Unless the seller provided a specific WRITTEN warranty or guarantee of fitness, just like anything else, it is considered an AS-IS sale. That means you check it out thoroughly BEFORE you buy it, and if you aren't technically inclined enough to do the diagnostics and testing, then you bring an expert with you to run the test. Once you buy it, it's yours, problems and all.

Enjoy the new laptop. Maybe you can frankenstein the thing and get some reusable parts out of it, and at least recoup SOME of your investment. Other than that, you have no legal recourse.

What kind of "specs" (sic)? What game? What OS? Did you try running the game in compatibility mode? Does the game even support the hardware in the laptop? Is the problem only when you play the game?
