Credit Card Rate Hike
Update on my progress in my quest against my credit card company. I had asked the credit reporting agency they use to provide me with the dates in 2004 that my credit card company ordered my credit reports. The credit reporting agency simply sent me back a new credit report with the notation that their role was simply to investigate information on my report that I tell them was in error. I sent them a certified letter quoting the sections and paragraphs from the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, showing them I was entitled to the information I was asking for.
To my surprise ( not really) yesterday, I recieved their reply. They state that they are " unable to honor my request because they were unable to access my report using the identification I provided them." I really feel that I am getting the runaround on getting this information from them ( makes me paranoid, thinking there may be some colusion between the credit card co. & the credit reporting agency ). When I sent my last request, I listed the referenece numbers of both the credit reports they sent me. I had to give them my name, address, DOB, SSN, etc. to obtain the reports in the first place, now they can't cross index their own fererence number to see that I am who I say I am. It gets more interesting now, however. This time I am supposed to send them Full name ( I already did), current mailing address ( I already did), 2 proofs of the address such as utility bills showing they are in my name and came to my current address, bank or insurance statement showing they are in my name and came to my current address, driver's license number, and social security number, and complete addresses for the past 2 years. With the possible exception of the drivers license number, they already have all of this information in my file. Where did they think the first 2 credit reports were going? Who did they think was responding to these reports asking for information?
Nevertheless, I am sending another letter with the information they are requesting. After I get all this wrapped up, I will file complaints against this credit reporting agnecy with several State & Federal departments as well as with the BBB.
Stay tuned-- will keep you posted. This bulldog ain't gonna let go of this thing!!!!!! Lindsay J
