Credit Card Rate Hike

Update on my progress in my quest against my credit card company. I had asked the credit reporting agency they use to provide me with the dates in 2004 that my credit card company ordered my credit reports. The credit reporting agency simply sent me back a new credit report with the notation that their role was simply to investigate information on my report that I tell them was in error. I sent them a certified letter quoting the sections and paragraphs from the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, showing them I was entitled to the information I was asking for.
To my surprise ( not really) yesterday, I recieved their reply. They state that they are " unable to honor my request because they were unable to access my report using the identification I provided them." I really feel that I am getting the runaround on getting this information from them ( makes me paranoid, thinking there may be some colusion between the credit card co. & the credit reporting agency ). When I sent my last request, I listed the referenece numbers of both the credit reports they sent me. I had to give them my name, address, DOB, SSN, etc. to obtain the reports in the first place, now they can't cross index their own fererence number to see that I am who I say I am. It gets more interesting now, however. This time I am supposed to send them Full name ( I already did), current mailing address ( I already did), 2 proofs of the address such as utility bills showing they are in my name and came to my current address, bank or insurance statement showing they are in my name and came to my current address, driver's license number, and social security number, and complete addresses for the past 2 years. With the possible exception of the drivers license number, they already have all of this information in my file. Where did they think the first 2 credit reports were going? Who did they think was responding to these reports asking for information?

Nevertheless, I am sending another letter with the information they are requesting. After I get all this wrapped up, I will file complaints against this credit reporting agnecy with several State & Federal departments as well as with the BBB.

Stay tuned-- will keep you posted. This bulldog ain't gonna let go of this thing!!!!!! Lindsay J

thank you for your recent update. May I remind you that you'll need some hefty solid evidence if you are trying to make a case on the CRA. The CRA is the housing of information furnished by the creditor directly. The CRA is allowed to provide a current tradeline furnisher or even one with a permissable purpose the right to your file. It doesnt matter if the credit card company waited a month or two to change your rate, its at their discretion. They can change your rate at any time for practically any reason. Your splitting hairs here on the fact that you didnt receive a letter to state you were placed on the *non-preferred* rate. You sure they didnt call it the *variable* rate? Most prime creditors use that term..

In so much as you are truly being given the run-around on the extra data being requested by the CRA. I heed you to re-iterate to the CRA that you have given the basics and they must provide you with a current report if one is requested. On the report it DOES show who has reviewed your file in the two years. Its called the Inquiry Listing. It may be coded as an A/R ( accounts review) by that creditor. Whilst I admire your zeal for justice I sense that you are building a case on sand...
