A relative of mine had, like many, overspent on his credit cards. Racking up a pile of unpaid debt. Being that he is in his late 80's and has no form of income other than the social security check he receives, I have taken on the burden of ensuring that these bills are being paid. Once he is deceased, who is responsible for these bills. Noone was authorized to sign on his accounts and no other name appears on his accounts. What will happen to the debt once he is no longer living????

When he passes, his estate will owe the debt. If there are any assets in the estate, they can be sold and the debt taken out of that. If there are no assets, then the creditor will have a loss, and no one will be liable.
