My thirteen year old daughter made a big mistake. She brought a small can of pepper spray to school, which they say is carrying a weapon. They found out because she foolishly let a friend examine it, and that kid sprayed it accidentally. The vapor forced everyone out of the room.

Both my daughter and her friend are on a ten day suspension right now for this incident, and we're told she could get expelled.

For the record, I gave her the pepper spray to use to protect herself from vicious dogs that were terrorizing the neighborhood. She had been bitten several times. She didn't realize it was considered a weapon. She never aggressed against anyone, nor would she.

The matter is complicated by the fact that her grades are not good, and she was suspended once before earlier this year. She has ADD, and receives Ritalin for it. She has not been granted the support and accomodations she is entitled to at school, despite my pleading. This has been her worst school year ever. They never had any sympathy for her, now I feel sure they are preparing to be very harsh with her and her clumsy friend, I want to know what our rights are.
