What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

This visitation arrangement is NOT in the divorce documents as ex moved away from our home town when our son started grade school, so this is only what we have amicably agreed upon ages ago.

My ex has primary custody of our *almost but not quite* teenage son (during school week due to us living in different towns but within the same state) and is with me every other week, shared holidays, summertime, etc. We both drive to a half way point for meeting up after school on Fridays and we meet at the same location on Sundays at 6p. On multiple occasions for years now, my ex is a no show on the return Sunday pick up, often times even after I have double confirmed hours earlier that we are still on for 6p! I will usually only confirm pickup time when we are visiting grandparents/family also in another town as I do not want to rush the visit for no reason.

I or my son only receives an "I am unavailable to meet" text usually while we are already waiting at our meeting point, ex will never pick up the phone & talk with me or give a real reason (i.e. sick, out with friends, just need an extra day, etc.) and now I am noticing a trend with this occurring following almost every public holiday where there is a 3 day weekend. Unfortunately I do not get off work every public holiday so either I must drive him home an additional hour away from our meeting point (longer from my house) and risk him possibly being with an intoxicated parent that is obviously unable to drive (intoxication is me guessing of course as no one will come out to meet me for the drop at the gated home) OR I must take off of work the next day, hope that I already have off work, notify my spouse of the change of plans, etc. (none of this is really well received at the last minute).

Speaking about this topic with the ex after the fact has never accomplished anything as it just keeps recurring. Is there anything that can be done about this scenario other than demand changing the court docs (that takes lawyers & $ I do not have right now, nor am I keen on adding this stress to my son), this visitation schedule is not even documented in court so I am sure I cannot make a complaint even though it is well documented in my records (i.e. texts). I think it is just horribly inconsiderate and have never done something like this to my son in all these years!

Being horribly inconsiderate matters not. Get a court order in place for transportation and to reflect the visitation as it is.

Before grade school & their move it was everyone other week 50/50

What parenting time/transportation IS specified in the orders?

I have never asked the court to amend anything so not sure entirely how that works, but I shall research or call to ask!
