i'm currently in hawaii. my husband is active military in the army. three months ago he took command of a company ( a commander of a company is pretty much like a manager or supervisor in the civilian world). in the military, "family support groups" (fsg) are very important. fsg exists to be the anchor to family members when the active military spouses are deployed. fsg is a command sponsored program; each new commander has to establish an fsg and be responsible for the positive, as well as the negative aspects of his/her fsg. fsg is usally headed by the spouse of the commanding commander, but not always. the former commander's spouse's schedule didn't allow her to take part in the fsg; hence the former commander asked one of the soldier's spouse, in the company, to take charge of the fsg. when my husband took command, he approached this particular spouse and told her that he appreciated all that she had done and that he would like for her to continue to be a part of our fsg's team and that he would like for her to work with me in doing so. She didn't indicated any problem with this. nevertheless, last week we discovered that she has been going around the company and telling other soldiers that i don't like the enlisted soldiers and noncommissioned officres; and that i demanded the fsg's treasury book. this whole thing has cost my husband the mistrust from his soldiers; the fsg is nonfunctional as people are mistrusting me so they don't want to be a part of it; the rumors are going crazy in the company and no one is trusting anyone.

i know that this case is rather petty compare to others out there. i also know that this case won't get any $ and i will probably have a hard time trying to find an attorney to represent me. yet, i don't care about the $ issue. what i want is to take this person to court so the i can clear my name and to make sure that people realize that they can lie and start rumors to detroy someone's reputation just because they got they don't get things their way.

what can i do? do i have a slander/defamation of character case here? if so, what can you advise as to my course of action. additionally, can you refer me to a reputable and aggressive attorney?
