What is the name of your state? Colorado
Back when I was young and stupid,in 1996, I burglarized a house. As it was my first offense and given the circumstances of it having been a retribution-type affair against the guy who burglarized MY house, I was given a relatively light sentence. They called it a "deferred sentence", where I was to perform 100 hours of community service and pay restitution and fines of approximately $250.00, and at the successful completion of which the case would be dismissed. I successfully completed all requirements of the court, went to my last hearing, got it dismissed, and learned a valuable and expensive lesson.
Now, eight years later, I'd like to buy a handgun for home defense purposes. I want to be in full compliance with the law while doing so, and I want to be able to answer honestly and correctly on a background check form. Is the court's dismissal REALLY dismissed, or will there be something lurking in my records waiting to bite me in the arse if I try to buy a gun?
Sincere, courteous responses from anyone experienced in Colorado law will be most appreciated.
Thank you
