I live in NY. I was divorced in Florida 8 years ago. I have two children from that marriage, ages 19 and 22. I have paid child support faithfully every month. My ex-wife was granted alimony for TMJ syndrome. She went to court in Florida and said that she received the alimony, but not the child support (it was lumped in one payment.) Since I wasn't there to defend myself, she won the case. I'm still paying child support, even though I was only obligated to pay until the kids reached 18. My pay is garnished twice a month. But, I was denied a passport. The government says I owe $8000 in past support. I am married again with an 8 year old daughter. I would love to take my family on a vacation, but I can't go without a passport. I am a teacher, a professional, who paid support for 8 years, yet I'm treated like a criminal. Can someone help me?What is the name of your state?

You can also vacation anywhere in the fifty states without a passport. You will not get a passport until you either win an appeal (which you are probably far outside the time period for that) or pay the arrearages and have the state allow you to get a passport.

Take your family on a vacation to Disney, Sea World and Universal Studios. While you are here make an appointment with a local attorney. Let your family enjoy a day at the beach and make arrangements to get this fixed.
