Denied Employment Because of Bankruptcy

Recently, I was denied employment by a financial company. They stated that my bankruptcy 7 years ago would be a FINRA disqualification. I have since verified that bankruptcy is not a FINRA disqualification critera to obtain a series 6 and 63 license. In other words, I was being discriminated against because of a bankruptcy. I am qualified for this position and my references are outstanding. I have an email from the recruiter stating this was the reason for the denying of employment.

In addition, the hiring manager knows me from a previous employer. When the person who I know discussed my interest in the position, he said that I was stoned all the time, which is absolutely false. Non the less, he had no right to state that, especially given his position as hiring manager.

I have since been hired by another broker-dealer with no problems. I'm considering filing a lawsuit. Please advise. Thank you.

Being bankrupt is not a protected class. There is no law suit to be had.

People in the financial services industry are often held to a higher standard. Why on earth would you want to entrust the management your life savings to a person who could not keep their own financial house in order.

Who hired you...I want to make sure I don't have my money with a financial services company that has such low hiring standards. (sorry ~ it is not personal ~ it is just the financial facts)

Just checked out your posting history: shoplifting, unpaid ticket, a boot on your car, eviction, sexual harrassment claim and a BK ~:eek::eek:

Yep... you really should be advising people on how and where to invest their money:rolleyes:

BTW - your post title says you were denied UNemployment.

There are very few times in life where you can FORCE someone to hire you, even if you feel like you were the best, smartest, most qualified, and even the best looking candidate for the job.

Employers still get to choose who they want working for them. Even if they make a bad choice in your opinion.
