What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ

We received a notice that our management company will be performing a mandatory state inspection of our apartment this week. The problem is that on the day of the inspection I'll be out of town for work. As part of my job I have top secret/confidential computer network data/passwords/configurations on my computers and absolutely must be home for all inspections where outsiders would potentially have access to the data.

The data includes some government agencies like the UN, Federal Reserve, also other clients like NYSE. So it's no joke to let a stranger around this data and I simply won't do it.

Are there exceptions to the state inspections For issues like this? Where government data could be stolen? I don't trust anyone around my belongings while I'm not there.

Thanks very much.

Take your computer with you. Buy a house. Have a friend there on the day of inspection.

If you have a desk top model then its not hard once the machine is off to remove the hard drive and you can put it in your bank box while you are gone , Some citys have mandatory inspections but I honestly doubt your state has a mandated inspections program , tenant friendly or not state I just doubt its state wide, Now inspections can be done by fire depts and some cities have goals of a inspection every X number of years but your city would be the first one to call if you want to see if it is your city who is doing this inspection. Other wise with reasonable notice if you block it then your city in theory could condemn your unit and make you move out.

New Jersey is an extemely tenant friendly state. It's a good bet that inspections of rental properties are a requirement:

I'm a bit perplexed that a person that the government found competent to hold a security clearance can't figure out how to secure his/her computer.

Tell me...what would happen if your apartment were broken in to?
