Hi, my name is kevin and i'm from iowa. i really need some help....fast. i was just informed by my ex mother in law that the dept. of human services have taken my children into their care because of a complaint lodged against my ex wife. i'm wondering what i can do sence i'm not the kids custodial parent? also, i was wondering why i wasn't informed of this action by d.h.s. officials, as i am the kids father, and i pay my child support religiously. is there any way that i can gain at least temporary custody of my children? i do have a criminal history, but none of it is violent, i.e. acouple owi's and acouple possesions of small ammounts of marijuana. that all is in the past tho. i'm gainfully employed and have a steady home life once again. any help that anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated! thanks millions. My response:

It's your Criminal Record that's keeping you from gaining custody. Hell, it would scare the "bejeebers" out of me too if they gave custody to you. It may be "in your past", but it's still on your Record, and DHS along with CPS would be derilict in their duties to the protection of the children if they turned custody over to you.

Sorry.
