What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

When me and my husband entered the US, we didn't declare the money we brought in Form 6059-B, as we thought that $10k per person is allowed (and we had under $20k for both). Now we found out that if you had more than $10k per family, you were supposed to declare it.

Now we are really worried about it, as we didn't intend to hide anything, just misinterpreted the rules. How bad is it?

Thanks for your help in advance.

It would have been bad had they discovered the money on you when you went through customs. At this point, they could not prove that you brought the money in with you nor would they attempt to do so.
