What is the name of your state? Texas
We are filing Ch. 7 in about a month. I have been looking at posts on this site for a while and am coming across terminology I don't understand. What is the difference between a case being dishcharged and a case being closed? And how do you know when your case is closed, do you receive some paperwork from the court?

For what I understand "discharged" means that all the creditors can no longer claim any funds from you ( that is if its a dischargeable debts and not school loans, alimony, child support); and it is not per say "close". Close means that trustee has divided the funds and was satisfy with the money he and the other people (creditors) received. According to my lawyer, the bankruptcy can be open for as long as the trustee want to keep it open. Hopefully this gives you a little insight.
